Lighttpd

lighttpd is an open-source web server optimized for speed-critical environments. It was originally written by Jan Kneschke as a proof-of-concept of the c10k problem – how to handle 10,000 connections in parallel on one server, but has gained worldwide popularity. Its name is a portmanteau of "light" and "httpd".

  • CVE-2014-2323CriMar 14, 2014
    risk 0.69cvss 9.8epss 0.62

SQL injection vulnerability in mod_mysql_vhost.c in lighttpd before 1.4.35 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the host name, related to request_check_hostname.

  • CVE-2026-22903CriFeb 9, 2026
    risk 0.64cvss 9.8epss 0.01

An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a crafted HTTP request containing an overly long SESSIONID cookie. This can trigger a stack buffer overflow in the modified lighttpd server, causing it to crash and potentially enabling remote code execution due to missing stack…

  • CVE-2015-3200HigJun 9, 2015
    risk 0.50cvss 7.5epss 0.10

mod_auth in lighttpd before 1.4.36 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary log entries via a basic HTTP authentication string without a colon character, as demonstrated by a string containing a NULL and new line character.

  • CVE-2013-4508HigNov 8, 2013
    risk 0.49cvss 7.5epss 0.03

lighttpd before 1.4.34, when SNI is enabled, configures weak SSL ciphers, which makes it easier for remote attackers to hijack sessions by inserting packets into the client-server data stream or obtain sensitive information by sniffing the network.

  • CVE-2018-25103MedJun 17, 2024
    risk 0.27cvss 5.3epss 0.01

There exists use-after-free vulnerabilities in lighttpd <= 1.4.50 request parsing which might read from invalid pointers to memory used in the same request, not from other requests.

  • CVE-2022-30780Jun 11, 2022
    risk 0.07cvss epss 0.56

Lighttpd 1.4.56 through 1.4.58 allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption from stuck connections) because connection_read_header_more in connections.c has a typo that disrupts use of multiple read operations on large headers.

  • CVE-2019-11072Apr 10, 2019
    risk 0.06cvss epss 0.74

lighttpd before 1.4.54 has a signed integer overflow, which might allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a malicious HTTP GET request, as demonstrated by mishandling of /%2F? in…

  • CVE-2012-5533Nov 24, 2012
    risk 0.04cvss epss 0.12

The http_request_split_value function in request.c in lighttpd before 1.4.32 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a request with a header containing an empty token, as demonstrated using the "Connection: TE,,Keep-Alive" header.

  • CVE-2011-4362Dec 24, 2011
    risk 0.04cvss epss 0.16

Integer signedness error in the base64_decode function in the HTTP authentication functionality (http_auth.c) in lighttpd 1.4 before 1.4.30 and 1.5 before SVN revision 2806 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) via crafted base64 input that…

  • CVE-2010-0295Feb 3, 2010
    risk 0.04cvss epss 0.12

lighttpd before 1.4.26, and 1.5.x, allocates a buffer for each read operation that occurs for a request, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) by breaking a request into small pieces that are sent at a slow rate.

  • CVE-2008-1270Mar 10, 2008
    risk 0.04cvss epss 0.12

mod_userdir in lighttpd 1.4.18 and earlier, when userdir.path is not set, uses a default of $HOME, which might allow remote attackers to read arbitrary files, as demonstrated by accessing the ~nobody directory.

  • CVE-2007-3947Jul 24, 2007
    risk 0.04cvss epss 0.08

request.c in lighttpd 1.4.15 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) by sending an HTTP request with duplicate headers, as demonstrated by a request containing two Location header lines, which results in a segmentation fault.

  • CVE-2014-2324Mar 14, 2014
    risk 0.02cvss epss 0.29

Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in (1) mod_evhost and (2) mod_simple_vhost in lighttpd before 1.4.35 allow remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the host name, related to request_check_hostname.

  • CVE-2018-19052Nov 7, 2018
    risk 0.01cvss epss 0.14

An issue was discovered in mod_alias_physical_handler in mod_alias.c in lighttpd before 1.4.50. There is potential ../ path traversal of a single directory above an alias target, with a specific mod_alias configuration where the matched alias lacks a trailing '/' character, but…

  • CVE-2013-4559Nov 20, 2013
    risk 0.01cvss epss 0.11

lighttpd before 1.4.33 does not check the return value of the (1) setuid, (2) setgid, or (3) setgroups functions, which might cause lighttpd to run as root if it is restarted and allows remote attackers to gain privileges, as demonstrated by multiple calls to the clone function…

  • CVE-2007-4727Sep 12, 2007
    risk 0.01cvss epss 0.13

Buffer overflow in the fcgi_env_add function in mod_proxy_backend_fastcgi.c in the mod_fastcgi extension in lighttpd before 1.4.18 allows remote attackers to overwrite arbitrary CGI variables and execute arbitrary code via an HTTP request with a long content length, as…

  • CVE-2006-0814Mar 6, 2006
    risk 0.01cvss epss 0.10

response.c in Lighttpd 1.4.10 and possibly previous versions, when run on Windows, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary source code via requests that contain trailing (1) "." (dot) and (2) space characters, which are ignored by Windows, as demonstrated by PHP files.

  • CVE-2025-12642Nov 3, 2025
    risk 0.00cvss epss 0.00

lighttpd1.4.80 incorrectly merged trailer fields into headers after http request parsing. This behavior can be exploited to conduct HTTP Header Smuggling attacks. Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to: * Bypass access control rules * Inject unsafe input into…

  • CVE-2022-41556Oct 6, 2022
    risk 0.00cvss epss 0.03

A resource leak in gw_backend.c in lighttpd 1.4.56 through 1.4.66 could lead to a denial of service (connection-slot exhaustion) after a large amount of anomalous TCP behavior by clients. It is related to RDHUP mishandling in certain HTTP/1.1 chunked situations. Use of…

  • CVE-2022-37797Sep 12, 2022
    risk 0.00cvss epss 0.02

In lighttpd 1.4.65, mod_wstunnel does not initialize a handler function pointer if an invalid HTTP request (websocket handshake) is received. It leads to null pointer dereference which crashes the server. It could be used by an external attacker to cause denial of service…
