CVE-2014-3451Hig0.497.50.01Aug 18, 2017OpenFire XMPP Server before 3.10 accepts self-signed certificates, which allows remote attackers to perform unspecified spoofing attacks.
CVE-2020-36956Med0.426.40.00Jan 26, 2026Openfire 4.6.0 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the nodejs plugin that allows attackers to inject malicious scripts through the 'path' parameter. Attackers can craft a payload with script tags to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of administrative users viewing the nodejs configuration page.
CVE-2009-1596Med0.426.50.00May 11, 2009Ignite Realtime Openfire before 3.6.5 does not properly implement the register.password (aka canChangePassword) console configuration setting, which allows remote authenticated users to bypass intended policy and change their own passwords via a passwd_change IQ packet.
CVE-2025-59154Med0.315.90.00Sep 15, 2025Openfire is an XMPP server licensed under the Open Source Apache License. Openfire’s SASL EXTERNAL mechanism for client TLS authentication contains a vulnerability in how it extracts user identities from X.509 certificates. Instead of parsing the structured ASN.1 data, the code calls X509Certificate.getSubjectDN().getName() and applies a regex to look for CN=. This method produces a provider-dependent string that does not escape special characters. In SunJSSE (sun.security.x509.X500Name), for example, commas and equals signs inside attribute values are not escaped. As a result, a malicious certificate can embed CN= inside another attribute value (e.g. OU="CN=admin,"). The regex will incorrectly interpret this as a legitimate Common Name and extract admin. If SASL EXTERNAL is enabled and configured to map CNs to user accounts, this allows the attacker to impersonate another user. The fix is included in Openfire 5.0.2 and 5.1.0.
CVE-2017-15911Med0.314.80.00Oct 26, 2017The Admin Console in Ignite Realtime Openfire Server before 4.1.7 allows arbitrary client-side JavaScript code execution on victims who click a crafted setup/setup-host-settings.jsp?domain= link, aka XSS. Session ID and data theft may follow as well as the possibility of bypassing CSRF protections, injection of iframes to establish communication channels, etc. The vulnerability is present after login into the application.
CVE-2016-10027Med0.315.90.00Jan 12, 2017Race condition in the XMPP library in Smack before 4.1.9, when the SecurityMode.required TLS setting has been set, allows man-in-the-middle attackers to bypass TLS protections and trigger use of cleartext for client authentication by stripping the "starttls" feature from a server response.
CVE-2023-323150.230.94KEVMay 26, 2023Openfire is an XMPP server licensed under the Open Source Apache License. Openfire's administrative console, a web-based application, was found to be vulnerable to a path traversal attack via the setup environment. This permitted an unauthenticated user to use the unauthenticated Openfire Setup Environment in an already configured Openfire environment to access restricted pages in the Openfire Admin Console reserved for administrative users. This vulnerability affects all versions of Openfire that have been released since April 2015, starting with version 3.10.0. The problem has been patched in Openfire release 4.7.5 and 4.6.8, and further improvements will be included in the yet-to-be released first version on the 4.8 branch (which is expected to be version 4.8.0). Users are advised to upgrade. If an Openfire upgrade isn’t available for a specific release, or isn’t quickly actionable, users may see the linked github advisory (GHSA-gw42-f939-fhvm) for mitigation advice.
CVE-2008-65080.090.77Mar 23, 2009Directory traversal vulnerability in the AuthCheck filter in the Admin Console in Openfire 3.6.0a and earlier allows remote attackers to bypass authentication and access the admin interface via a .. (dot dot) in a URI that matches the Exclude-Strings list, as demonstrated by a /setup/setup-/.. sequence in a URI.
CVE-2009-15950.040.09May 11, 2009The jabber:iq:auth implementation in IQAuthHandler.java in Ignite Realtime Openfire before 3.6.4 allows remote authenticated users to change the passwords of arbitrary accounts via a modified username element in a passwd_change action.
CVE-2008-65100.040.06Mar 23, 2009Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in login.jsp in the Admin Console in Openfire 3.6.0a and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the url parameter.
CVE-2009-04970.040.07Feb 10, 2009Directory traversal vulnerability in log.jsp in Ignite Realtime Openfire 3.6.2 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a ..\ (dot dot backslash) in the log parameter.
CVE-2009-04960.040.15Feb 10, 2009Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Ignite Realtime Openfire 3.6.2 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) log parameter to (a) logviewer.jsp and (b) log.jsp; (2) search parameter to (c) group-summary.jsp; (3) username parameter to (d) user-properties.jsp; (4) logDir, (5) maxTotalSize, (6) maxFileSize, (7) maxDays, and (8) logTimeout parameters to (e) audit-policy.jsp; (9) propName parameter to (f) server-properties.jsp; and the (10) roomconfig_roomname and (11) roomconfig_roomdesc parameters to (g) muc-room-edit-form.jsp. NOTE: this can be leveraged for arbitrary code execution by using XSS to upload a malicious plugin.
CVE-2015-77070.030.04Oct 5, 2015Ignite Realtime Openfire 3.10.2 allows remote authenticated users to gain administrator access via the isadmin parameter to user-edit-form.jsp.
CVE-2008-65110.030.04Mar 23, 2009Open redirect vulnerability in login.jsp in Openfire 3.6.0a and earlier allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary web sites and conduct phishing attacks via the url parameter.
CVE-2008-65090.030.02Mar 23, 2009SQL injection vulnerability in CallLogDAO in SIP Plugin in Openfire 3.6.0a and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the type parameter to sipark-log-summary.jsp.
CVE-2014-50750.000.00Oct 25, 2014The Ignite Realtime Smack XMPP API 4.x before 4.0.2, and 3.x and 2.x when a custom SSLContext is used, does not verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) or subjectAltName field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.
CVE-2014-03640.000.00Apr 30, 2014The ParseRoster component in the Ignite Realtime Smack XMPP API before 4.0.0-rc1 does not verify the from attribute of a roster-query IQ stanza, which allows remote attackers to spoof IQ responses via a crafted attribute.
CVE-2014-03630.000.01Apr 30, 2014The ServerTrustManager component in the Ignite Realtime Smack XMPP API before 4.0.0-rc1 does not verify basicConstraints and nameConstraints in X.509 certificate chains from SSL servers, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof servers and obtain sensitive information via a crafted certificate chain.
CVE-2014-27410.000.03Apr 11, 2014nio/XMLLightweightParser.java in Ignite Realtime Openfire before 3.9.2 does not properly restrict the processing of compressed XML elements, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (resource consumption) via a crafted XMPP stream, aka an "xmppbomb" attack.
CVE-2008-17280.000.02Apr 11, 2008ConnectionManagerImpl.java in Ignite Realtime Openfire 3.4.5 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (daemon outage) by triggering large outgoing queues without reading messages.
