Rubrik Launches Protocol for Secure AI Agent Access to Security Intelligence
Rubrik introduces Rubrik MCP, enabling AI agents to securely access security intelligence for enhanced incident response and cyber resilience.

Rubrik has announced the launch of Rubrik MCP (Model Context Protocol), a new protocol designed to provide AI agents with a secure and programmable pathway to access Rubrik's extensive security intelligence. This development significantly expands the capabilities of Rubrik AI, a feature now adopted by one-third of its global customer base.
The integration of Rubrik MCP aims to unite advanced AI models, such as those from Anthropic, with Rubrik's specialized domain expertise and built-in security guardrails. The system is engineered to support multi-step reasoning, making it a powerful tool for critical incident response scenarios. "We are seeing rapid growth with AI, and the addition of Rubrik MCP transforms security operations by seamlessly connecting customer AI agents directly into Rubrik’s rich telemetry and governance framework," stated Arvind Nithrakashyap, Chief Technology Officer at Rubrik. He further emphasized that in an era where cyber threats accelerate at machine speed, this technology helps customers maintain visibility and control across complex enterprise environments.
Rubrik MCP directly exposes the Rubrik Security Cloud API schema, granting connected AI agents immediate access to all available capabilities. This allows security teams to save and reuse multi-step recovery or compliance workflows as deterministic tools across various AI clients. Rubrik ensures that security remains intact through robust measures including role-based access control parity, configurable permissions, and adherence to OWASP MCP Top 10 aligned guardrails, mitigating risks associated with AI agent access.
By facilitating direct interaction with Rubrik Security Cloud intelligence and Rubrik Agent Cloud governance, Rubrik AI empowers organizations to operate at machine speed and effectively govern their AI agent deployments. The platform functions as an autonomous execution engine that spans data, identity, and applications to achieve critical business outcomes. The architecture of Rubrik AI's agent was developed in collaboration with Anthropic's teams, specifically to reduce response latency and enhance the efficiency of its multi-step reasoning capabilities.
One customer, Mpho Mongalo, Senior Backup Specialist at Datacentrix, shared positive feedback, noting that Rubrik AI has "made my life so much easier." He described how the tool provides instant, clear summaries of backup failures and their resolutions, eliminating the need to sift through extensive logs.
This new protocol addresses a growing need for secure integration of AI into security operations. As AI agents become more prevalent in enterprise environments, ensuring their controlled and secure access to sensitive data is paramount. Rubrik MCP offers a solution that balances the power of AI with the necessity of robust security and governance.
The implications of Rubrik MCP extend to improving the speed and accuracy of incident response. By providing AI agents with direct, governed access to relevant security intelligence, organizations can potentially reduce the time it takes to detect, analyze, and remediate security incidents, thereby enhancing their overall cyber resilience.
Rubrik's move with MCP positions the company as a key player in the evolving landscape of AI-driven cybersecurity, offering a framework that allows businesses to leverage AI safely and effectively for their security needs.
