LastPass Enhances Business Max with AI and Web Monitoring to Govern Employee Data Sharing
LastPass introduces AI Monitoring & Protect and Web Monitoring & Protect features to its Business Max offering, providing organizations with visibility and control over employee use of AI tools and websites.
LastPass is bolstering its Business Max offering with the introduction of two significant new capabilities: AI Monitoring & Protect and Web Monitoring & Protect. These features aim to provide organizations with much-needed visibility and governance over how their employees interact with AI tools, SaaS applications, and general websites, all managed through LastPass's existing browser-native extension.
The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence in the workplace presents a dual-edged sword for IT departments. While AI offers substantial productivity gains, it also introduces considerable security risks if not properly managed. According to recent data, 92% of organizations report AI is already in use, yet a significant majority struggle with ungoverned AI usage or lack the necessary visibility to identify it. LastPass's new AI Monitoring & Protect feature directly addresses this gap, empowering administrators to discover 'Shadow AI' tools, understand AI usage patterns, and implement governance policies.
"Your employees are already using AI to help them work more efficiently, but the applications they access often carry risks that IT teams can’t see or efficiently govern," stated Don MacLennan, Chief Product Officer of LastPass. "Still, AI’s value is too great to ban it completely. Organizations need a way to embrace AI while managing the security risks that come with it." The new capabilities allow admins to govern apps and sites by category, block malicious websites, and crucially, warn users before sensitive data is shared with AI tools.
The AI Protect component of the new offering focuses on preventing the inadvertent leakage of sensitive information. A significant concern for 68% of organizations is employees inputting credentials, API keys, or personal information into AI tools. AI Protect logs these detected attempts for administrator review and, more importantly, provides real-time warnings to employees before they share such data, acting as a critical safeguard against accidental exposure.
Complementing the AI features, Web Monitoring & Protect provides enhanced oversight of employee web activity. As employees navigate a vast and often risky internet landscape, organizations face exposure to malware, infostealers, and other web-based threats. Web Monitoring offers administrators insight into the websites employees visit, identifying potential exposure points and enabling the creation of robust access policies.
Web Protect translates these insights into action by offering several key functionalities. This includes website discovery to track employee browsing habits, a new Malicious/Risky category for blocking high-risk sites across the organization with a single rule, and the ability to apply Block, Warn, or Allow rules to entire categories of sites. This simplifies policy enforcement and strengthens employee protection against web-borne threats without the burden of managing individual site exceptions.
These expanded capabilities are now available to all LastPass Business Max customers, building upon the existing SaaS Monitoring and SaaS Protect features. The integration aims to provide a comprehensive solution for managing the modern digital workplace, where AI and extensive web access are becoming standard, but require diligent security oversight.
By offering these advanced monitoring and protection tools, LastPass seeks to enable organizations to confidently embrace the benefits of AI and broader web access while mitigating the associated security risks.
