GTA 6 Early Access Scams Target Fans with Fake VIP Offers
Scammers are exploiting anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI by setting up fraudulent websites that offer 'VIP early access' for a fee paid in cryptocurrency, leaving victims with no game and no recourse.

A new wave of scam websites is offering something millions of people want: a way to play Grand Theft Auto VI before it comes out. These sites promise "Get GTA 6 before everyone else" and "Buy VIP early access" for a few hundred dollars in cryptocurrency. But it's a scam. Any site claiming to sell GTA 6 early access is not authorized by Rockstar Games and should be treated as fraudulent. Victims pay $250 or more via Bitcoin, USDT, or Ethereum, but receive no game, and because cryptocurrency payments are irreversible, there's no way to get a refund.
The scam pages are designed to look premium and exclusive, featuring neon Vice City artwork, GTA 6 logos, luxury cars, and AI-generated images. The pitch is usually "VIP Digital Access" or "Exclusive Early Access Preview." After sending cryptocurrency, victims are told to wait for payment confirmation and enter their transaction ID to "unlock" the download. But there is no game. Two details make this more than an ordinary rip-off: cryptocurrency payments generally can't be reversed, and there is no product at all—GTA 6 is not available outside Rockstar.
To understand why these scams are appearing now, consider the enormity of the GTA franchise. According to publisher Take-Two Interactive, the series has sold more than 465 million copies worldwide, with GTA 5 alone accounting for over 225 million sales. GTA 5 launched in September 2013, and GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026—a 13-year gap. This anticipation, combined with multiple delays and years of speculation, creates a perfect environment for scammers to exploit eager fans.
Scams like this work because they mix desire with urgency. Early access is a real thing in gaming—players are used to beta tests, founder's packs, and deluxe editions. A page selling "VIP access" doesn't automatically sound suspicious. Scarcity and urgency short-circuit caution: phrases like "Before everyone else" and "Exclusive" encourage quick decisions. The sites look professional, with polished design and smooth payment flows, making them feel legitimate even when the offer doesn't hold up.
One fact protects you from every GTA 6 early-access scam: GTA 6 is not available to buy, download, or play early through unofficial websites. Rockstar is selling pre-orders only, starting June 25 through digital storefronts and select retailers. If a website claims to offer early access, VIP access, or a playable copy before release, it isn't an authorized seller. Malwarebytes advises sticking to official pre-orders, being wary of crypto payment requirements, and treating "exclusive access" claims with skepticism.
This scam is a classic example of social engineering targeting a highly anticipated product. As the November 2026 release date approaches, similar schemes are likely to proliferate. Users should pause before sending money and verify offers through official channels. Malwarebytes Browser Guard can help block malicious pages, but the best defense is awareness: nobody can sell you a legitimate copy of GTA 6 before Rockstar does.
Malwarebytes researcher Stafan Dasic told Infosecurity Magazine that the scam pages are professionally designed with smooth payment flows to appear legitimate, and warned that because payments are made in cryptocurrency, victims have no recourse for refunds. He noted that the 13-year gap between GTA 5 and GTA 6 has amplified hype-driven scams, and advised users to only trust official Rockstar announcements and enable two-factor authentication on gaming accounts.
