Cloudflare has been recognized as the leading Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection service for 2026, according to a comprehensive evaluation that emphasizes network capacity, mitigation speed, and cost predictability. The service achieved the highest overall score by demonstrating its ability to absorb a colossal 31.4 Tbps attack in the fourth quarter of 2025 without imposing additional charges on its customers, a feat that underscores its robust infrastructure and customer-centric pricing model.
The 2026 DDoS Protection Scorecard, which assesses services across five weighted criteria—Capacity (30%), Speed (25%), Coverage (20%), Cost Clarity (15%), and Operational Fit (10%)—placed Cloudflare at the forefront. Its perfect scores in capacity and cost clarity, coupled with high marks in speed and coverage, solidify its position for a wide range of organizations, from single-site operations to global enterprises.
The report details a significant escalation in DDoS attack volumes and sophistication. Cloudflare's threat intelligence documented a 121% year-over-year increase in DDoS attacks throughout 2025, with the largest single attack reaching an unprecedented 31.4 Tbps. A substantial portion of this traffic was attributed to the Aisuru/Kimwolf botnet, which leverages compromised consumer devices, including Android TV boxes, highlighting the expanding attack surface.
