Malicious code in pojang-resorter (PyPI)
Details
**Severity:** Critical **Affected versions:** `= 1.22` ## Source: kam193 (2b5f9cd53d855ccc1ebed2b1f9dc610af8ee0978f5fa689cad954b3a56b1a22b) Early versions used overriding install command to take screenshots, then it moved to automated installing an infostealer. Later the behaviour was changed and looks like being a toolkit to install malware, yet, depending on version, containing an automated infostealer installation. The exact code is partially hidden behind different obfuscation methods. --- Category: MALICIOUS - The campaign has clearly malicious intent, like infostealers. Campaign: 2024-08-pojang-resorter Reasons (based on the campaign): - infostealer - The package overrides the install command in setup.py to execute malicious code during installation. - - Downloads and executes a remote executable. - obfuscation - exfiltration-generic --- Credit: [OpenSSF](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages) ([source](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/49d0cfba3689ed9b195d101d3a2a964c6a77f767/osv/malicious/pypi/pojang-resorter/MAL-2024-11660.json)) **References:** - https://bad-packages.kam193.eu/pypi/package/pojang-resorter - https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/49d0cfba3689ed9b195d101d3a2a964c6a77f767/osv/malicious/pypi/pojang-resorter/MAL-2024-11660.json - https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/3d30ffd98e870abc0e09fb3af94d65fc8efd391ede958dd0365007a7ae020ec0 - https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-wxfc-82j8-rm56
