Details
**Severity:** Critical **Affected versions:** `= 0.1.0` ## Source: kam193 (26201e7959d7a736440fa6fb22ba7b9911c269b08460374d0a2db307ba6b0273) During installation, obfuscated code is used to fetch code hidden in an image containing a Python application with a native extension module. This module holds an obfuscated infostealer which collects sensitive data and exfiltrates them to a C2 server retrieved from transaction history in the Polygon blockchain. --- Category: MALICIOUS - The campaign has clearly malicious intent, like infostealers. Campaign: 2026-09-donutautosellsrc Reasons (based on the campaign): - infostealer - Downloads and executes a remote executable. - obfuscation - malware - native-extension - steganography - c2-in-blockchain - The package contains code to detect if it is running in a sandbox environment. --- Credit: [OpenSSF](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages) ([source](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/dc001c119ba5c2b373c7f75b89cf84499f169b81/osv/malicious/pypi/donutpromotion/MAL-2026-17196.json)) **References:** - https://bad-packages.kam193.eu/pypi/package/donutpromotion - https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/dc001c119ba5c2b373c7f75b89cf84499f169b81/osv/malicious/pypi/donutpromotion/MAL-2026-17196.json - https://polygonscan.com/address/0x9c0a507300fd902787bb193d80fca5ce6e1bff9a - https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/d03c42c275f0dbc617428441508c49ae1adcbbc95af4eeb094bca4e4f8943f3e/detection - https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/9c4594ea270f8ce1185755115d5eb811c41d8589/osv/malicious/pypi/donutpromotion/MAL-2026-17196.json - https://pypi.org/project/donutpromotion/0.1.0 - https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/501714751ba269514a0a7215c211de39b4230b65/osv/malicious/pypi/donutpromotion/MAL-2026-17196.json - https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/cf53ffefec5bc24e7f4150b54129904fcf726048/osv/malicious/pypi/donutpromotion/MAL-2026-17196.json
