Malicious code in pearx93qja-notthedevs (npm)
Details
**Severity:** Critical **Affected versions:** `= 1.1.8` Part of a self-republishing campaign: the package ships autochange2.js, which in a loop gives the package a new random name, rewrites package.json and runs `npm publish` to publish the package again under the new name. Self-replicating publication is the propagation step of a registry worm and fills the registry with copies. Version examined: 1.1.8; tarball SHA-256 938dfb2c4192301e0c212617e4e459e1a4af51beed1d2ca862b68f9c2e6a3595. --- Credit: [OpenSSF](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages) ([source](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/96784445b5d8dfec9ef357a890e7db920b562f09/osv/malicious/npm/pearx93qja-notthedevs/MAL-2026-18663.json)) **References:** - https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/96784445b5d8dfec9ef357a890e7db920b562f09/osv/malicious/npm/pearx93qja-notthedevs/MAL-2026-18663.json - https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-c2f4-3mvg-7f8h
