Malicious code in low_hummingbird_replicate_automation (npm)
Details
**Severity:** Critical **Affected versions:** `= 2.2.1` Part of a self-republishing campaign: the package ships autopublish3.js, which in a loop gives the package a new random name, bumps its version, rewrites package.json and runs `npm publish` to publish the package again under the new name. Self-replicating publication is the propagation step of a registry worm and fills the registry with copies. Version examined: 2.2.1; tarball SHA-256 27350f7324f64a2c30cb92c938c4e5133d65e27b6efba13d97b15986732027e7. --- Credit: [OpenSSF](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages) ([source](https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/96784445b5d8dfec9ef357a890e7db920b562f09/osv/malicious/npm/low_hummingbird_replicate_automation/MAL-2026-18661.json)) **References:** - https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/96784445b5d8dfec9ef357a890e7db920b562f09/osv/malicious/npm/low_hummingbird_replicate_automation/MAL-2026-18661.json - https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-777j-qwpx-hqmv
