Attack vector
An authenticated attacker crafts a URL containing a JavaScript payload in the `id` or `ticket_id` GET parameter and tricks a victim into clicking it. When patient.php renders the response, the unsanitized parameter value is embedded directly into the `ACTION` attribute of an HTML form (e.g., `ACTION="patient.php?id=PAYLOAD&ticket_id=...&action=update"`). The victim's browser executes the injected script in the context of the Open ISES Tickets application. The attack requires the victim to be logged in and to click the malicious link (user interaction), but no special privileges beyond authentication are needed [patch_id=1260419].
Affected code
The vulnerability exists in patient.php and related files (patient_w.php, patient_JF.php) where GET parameters `id` and `ticket_id` are printed directly into HTML form `ACTION` URLs without sanitization. The same pattern of unsanitized output appears in routes_nm.php, routes_i.php, os_watch.php, delete_module.php, ticketsmdb_import.php, and db_loader.php [patch_id=1260419].
What the fix does
The patch applies context-appropriate sanitization to all previously unsanitized user inputs across 22 files. For numeric parameters such as `id` and `ticket_id`, the patch wraps the value with `intval()` to coerce it to an integer, which eliminates any possibility of script injection. For string parameters rendered in HTML attributes, the patch applies `htmlspecialchars($val, ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8')` to encode special characters.
