"Missing output encoding of the `ticket_id` GET parameter when it is printed directly into HTML hidden input VALUE attributes in routes_nm.php."
Attack vector
An authenticated attacker crafts a URL containing a JavaScript payload in the `ticket_id` GET parameter, e.g. `routes_nm.php?ticket_id="><script>alert(1)</script>`. When a victim with an active session visits this URL, the unsanitized value is echoed into multiple hidden input fields (e.g. `<INPUT TYPE='hidden' NAME='ticket_id' VALUE='...'>`) without any HTML encoding [CWE-79]. The payload executes in the victim's browser because the attacker-controlled string breaks out of the VALUE attribute and injects arbitrary HTML/JavaScript. The attack requires no special network position beyond delivering the link (e.g. via email or another ticket) and requires the victim to be authenticated [patch_id=876962].
Affected code
The vulnerable code is in `routes_nm.php` where `$_GET['ticket_id']` is printed directly into hidden input VALUE attributes (lines 847, 896, 898, 915, 925, 928) and into a JavaScript string (line 938) [patch_id=876962]. The same pattern of unsanitized output exists in `routes_i.php`, `patient_w.php`, `patient_JF.php`, `os_watch.php`, `delete_module.php`, `ticketsmdb_import.php`, and `db_loader.php`.
What the fix does
The patch wraps every `$_GET['ticket_id']` output in `routes_nm.php` with `htmlspecialchars($val, ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8')` for HTML attribute contexts, and uses `intval()` for the JavaScript context inside `do_notify()` [patch_id=876962]. This ensures that any quote characters, angle brackets, or ampersands in the attacker-supplied value are converted to their safe HTML entities, preventing the payload from breaking out of the attribute value. The same fix pattern was applied to 21 other files across the codebase to address 69 total reflected XSS instances.
