Open ISES Tickets before 3.44.2 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in single.php that allows authenticated attackers to inject arbitrary JavaScript by passing an unsanitized value through the ticket_id GET parameter directly into an HTML attribute. Attack vector
An authenticated attacker crafts a malicious URL containing a JavaScript payload in the ticket_id GET parameter (e.g., `single.php?ticket_id="><script>alert(1)</script>`). When a victim with an active session visits this URL, the unsanitized value is printed directly into an HTML attribute on the page, causing the injected script to execute in the victim's browser. The attack requires the victim to be logged in (PR:L) and to click the crafted link (UI:R), as reflected by the CVSS vector.
Affected code
The vulnerability exists in single.php where the `ticket_id` GET parameter is printed directly into an HTML attribute without sanitization. What the fix does
The patch wraps the ticket_id output with `htmlspecialchars($val, ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8')` in single.php (and many other files), which encodes HTML-special characters such as `"`, `'`, `<`, and `>` into their corresponding HTML entities. This prevents an attacker-supplied value from breaking out of the HTML attribute context and injecting arbitrary markup or script tags. For numeric parameters like ticket_id in contexts where only integers are valid, the patch also uses `intval()` as an additional defense layer.
