AI Insight

LLM-synthesized narrative grounded in this CVE's description and references.

OpenText Brava! Desktop Build 16.6.4.55 has a BMP parsing out-of-bounds write vulnerability allowing remote code execution with user interaction.

Vulnerability

This vulnerability exists in the BMP file parsing functionality of OpenText Brava! Desktop Build 16.6.4.55. The lack of proper validation of user-supplied data can result in a write past the end of an allocated buffer, leading to memory corruption. Affected versions are limited to Build 16.6.4.55. [1]

Exploitation

An attacker must craft a malicious BMP file and convince the target user to open it or visit a malicious page. User interaction is required, as the target must trigger the parsing of the BMP file. No other privileges or network position are needed beyond delivering the file. [1]

Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process. This can lead to full confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromise of the affected system. [1]

Mitigation

As of the referenced advisories, no fixed version has been released. Users are advised to apply any available updates from OpenText when they become available and to exercise caution when opening BMP files from untrusted sources. [1]
