Cisco Small Business RV110W, RV130, RV130W, and RV215W Routers Management Interface Remote Command Execution and Denial of Service Vulnerabilities

CVE-2021-1203

Description

Multiple vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV110W, RV130, RV130W, and RV215W Routers could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause an affected device to restart unexpectedly. The vulnerabilities are due to improper validation of user-supplied input in the web-based management interface. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending crafted HTTP requests to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code as the root user on the underlying operating system or cause the device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. To exploit these vulnerabilities, an attacker would need to have valid administrator credentials on the affected device. Cisco has not released software updates that address these vulnerabilities.

Authenticated remote code execution and DoS vulnerabilities in Cisco Small Business RV series routers due to improper input validation; no fix available.

Vulnerability

Multiple vulnerabilities in the web-based management interface of Cisco Small Business RV110W, RV130, RV130W, and RV215W Routers (all versions) allow authenticated remote code execution or denial of service. The issues stem from improper validation of user-supplied input in the web-based management interface [1].

Exploitation

An attacker must have valid administrator credentials for the affected device. They can exploit these vulnerabilities by sending crafted HTTP requests to the web-based management interface via a local LAN connection (always enabled) or over WAN if remote management is enabled (disabled by default) [1].

Impact

Successful exploitation allows the attacker to execute arbitrary code as the root user on the underlying operating system, leading to full device compromise. Alternatively, the attacker could cause the device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition [1].

Mitigation

Cisco has not released software updates to address these vulnerabilities and no workarounds are available. Customers should disable remote management if enabled and restrict LAN access to trusted administrators [1].
