Vulnerability

In libxaac, a component of Android 10, there is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability due to a missing bounds check [1]. This affects Android 10 devices with a security patch level before 2019-09-01 [1]. The bug can be triggered when parsing a crafted media file.

Exploitation

An attacker must convince a user to open a specially crafted media file. No additional execution privileges are needed beyond normal user interaction. The missing bounds check allows writing beyond allocated buffer boundaries during audio decoding.
