CVE-2018-0348
Description
A vulnerability in the CLI of the Cisco SD-WAN Solution could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to inject arbitrary commands that are executed with root privileges. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by authenticating to the device and submitting malicious input to the load command within the VPN subsystem. The attacker must be authenticated to access the affected CLI parameter. A successful exploit could allow an attacker to execute commands with root privileges. This vulnerability affects the following Cisco products if they are running a release of the Cisco SD-WAN Solution prior to Release 18.3.0: vBond Orchestrator Software, vEdge 100 Series Routers, vEdge 1000 Series Routers, vEdge 2000 Series Routers, vEdge 5000 Series Routers, vEdge Cloud Router Platform, vManage Network Management Software, vSmart Controller Software. Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvi69866.

Cisco SD-WAN Solution prior to Release 18.3.0 contains a CLI command injection flaw in the VPN subsystem's load command, allowing authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary commands as root.
Vulnerability
The vulnerability exists in the CLI of the Cisco SD-WAN Solution, specifically within the load command in the VPN subsystem. Insufficient input validation allows an attacker to inject arbitrary commands. This affects the following products running a release prior to 18.3.0: vBond Orchestrator Software, vEdge 100/1000/2000/5000 Series Routers, vEdge Cloud Router Platform, vManage Network Management Software, and vSmart Controller Software [1].
Exploitation
An attacker must be authenticated to the device to access the affected CLI parameter. The attacker then submits malicious input to the load command within the VPN subsystem. The exploit does not require any additional privileges beyond normal user authentication. No user interaction from other users is needed [1].
Impact
Successful exploitation allows the attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges on the affected device. This leads to complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system [1].
Mitigation
Cisco has released free software updates to address this vulnerability. The fix is included in Cisco SD-WAN Solution Release 18.3.0 and later. Customers should upgrade to a fixed release. No workarounds are available [1].
